Technically it COULD “work” if by work you mean working your tail off twice as many hours as you used to, for pitiably little money (usually less than 2% of the dollars you generate) and scamming, lying to, and finally enslaving people you are supposed to know and treasure as friends.
Sure but it depends on how many people you sign up under you and how many people they sign up and so on.
If you are considering this be sure it’s a product or service you believe in. You will most likely be asking friends and family to sign up so think about how it will effect your relationships. Never sell something you wouldn’t want for yourself.
Actually, Multi-Level Marketing is the fastest growing industry there is today. That is because the concept actually is a great one. You do, however have to find the right company. I have been in a few that, as you say, is more profitable for the ones at the top.
If the pay structure is good, then everyone in the “tree” has equal opportunity to surpass their upline if their accomplishments warrent so. For example, The company I am with is structured in this manner as I actually passed my upline within just a few months after I started working the business! That is how it should allow things to work.
It is all about how the company puts their pay structure together for their compensation plan. Like all other businesses and employers, you have some that are good and some that are not.
Unfortunately, for the many who aren’t familiar with how the structure works, they judge ALL MLM companies by what others do.
You should always investigate their compensation plan structure carefully to be sure it is achievable and that it offers an equal advancement opportunity. If you judge all of them for what others do, you could miss out on something that could make a big difference in your future.
However, this type of business is not for everyone. Many people live inside a “comfort zone” and fear the unknown. Many prefer what is familiar to them and that is ok. But it is always a great thing to become educated in things that you aren’t familiar with before deciding that it won’t work. Many people thought Thomas Edison was a nut case, too! Thank goodness he didn’t listen!
If you would like help in understanding how this structure works, I will be glad to explain it to you. I can also offer you an article with tips on how to choose the right company for you, what to look for, what to avoid and questions to ask to be sure that the opportunity is right and that the company is legit.
It is too long to send through answers messaging but if you will email me at I will be glad to email you a copy and give you an easy break-down on how this works and why it is so effective.

No. I just saw an MLM court case end up on Judge Judy and the plaintiff answered that he only made $8,000 last year per his tax return. It’s a scam through and through.
If I were at the top, I earn $10k per day. If I were a new entry, I earn $400 per month. I believe in one day, I’ll be the top as well as I’m serious about my MLM business. Don’t listen too much if you haven’t stepped in any MLM briefing or seminars before. Just try once then you’ll experience it. Of course, I’ll always encourage you to join those reliable and well established MLM companies if you really want to be success in this business in order to reach financial freedom in your life. Contact me in email if you’re interested in how am I doing in MLM.

I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s more of a bother than it’s worth.
